Elizabeth
Krueger
Dancing
is Elizabeths
passion. She started her dancing career at her local park district 17 years ago; from her
local park district to Academy 2000, to The School of Performing Arts where she currently
dances. She has been in numerous high school and community musicals, dance recitals and
dance competitions. Elizabeth
has choreographed performances in Once
Upon A Kingdom and for the Spring Fling at the 95th
Street
YMCA. Elizabeth
has four years of teaching experience and continues to serve as a substitute teacher at
The School of Performing Arts. She is currently majoring in Elementary Education with a
minor in Dance at Ashworth
College.
Creative
Movement
Bend,
twirl, jump and bounce! Creative Movement will
provide an introduction to dance and encouragement of self-expression and exploration in a
fun, age-appropriate learning environment. Designed for dancers age 3-4 years old, this
program will include a variation between large motor skills, various exercises and games,
and the use of props to create a fun, imaginative classroom where students learn the
fundamentals of dance. Students will be introduced to movement, music and coordination
with an introduction to ballet terminology and technique. Students will finish the program
with a beginners knowledge of dance. Children may wear a leotard, tights and
ballet shoes or shorts, t-shirt and gym shoes. Long
hair should be tied back.

Jazz
An
introduction to Jazz theory and basic technique will be taught including fundamentals and
basic moves. Patterns and combinations will introduce the varied essentials of jazz. Students should wear a leotard or jazz pants and shirt. Jazz shoes should be worn and long hair should be
tied back.

Pre-Ballet/Pre-Tap
This
class is a continuation of Creative Movement that specifically targets ballet and tap.
This class will present activities and instruction in poise, grace, rhythm, proper
dance alignment, ballet and tap theory, as well as technique. Students will follow
the traditional dance regime of stretching, isolation exercises, barre, across the floor
and center work. More extensive ballet and tap will be taught with a greater
emphasis of technique while still incorporating games and activities to keep the class
fun. Students should wear a leotard and tights, and bring both ballet and tap
shoes to each class. Long hair should be tied back.

Ballet/Tap
This
class is a continuation of Pre-Ballet/Pre-Tap and emphasizes ballet and tap theory. Students will also focus on technique with
step combinations, musical awareness and performance skills while working at the barre and
across the floor during the ballet portion of the class.
The second half of each class will focus on rhythm technique, movement and
tap combination steps will be learned. Basic
movement and timing skills will also be emphasized. Students should wear a leotard and
tights, and bring both ballet and tap shoes to each class.
Long hair should be tied back.

Hip-Hop
Express
yourself! Hip-hop is a genre of dance that
incorporates a certain style of creativity, attitude, music, posture, and choreography.
This genre stems from early urban influences of rap and the inner city streets where many
different ethnic cultures and dance disciplines fused together to form the exciting form
of dance known as hip-hop. This basic hip-hop class will begin with stretching and
strengthening exercises, progressing to some technique work, doing small patterns across
the floor and in the center, and finishing with some basic, choreographed routines. Students should wear loose pants (no jeans), a t-shirt,
gym or jazz shoes. Kneepads are recommended
and long hair should be tied back.

Each
of our dance classes for the winter/spring session will be working toward our annual Dance
Recital on May
5, 2007. Participation in the recital is not mandatory; however, a good deal of class time will be devoted
to preparation for the show. Those students
who wish to participate in the recital will be measured for costumes, and an additional costume fee will be assessed.
